Storytime Session 2026

The MIDL Young Researcher Board is proud to present a new series: Story Time Sessions. In these sessions, our invited guest shares their career journey and key lessons learned along the way. We are delighted to announce our second speaker in this series will be Professor Virginie Uhlmann. The second Story Time Session will take place on 20 May 2026 at 14:30 UTC as a virtual Zoom event. The event will be free of charge. However, a mandatory registration is necessary, and Zoom links will be sent out after registration.

About our storyteller Portrait of Virginie Uhlmann

Virginie Uhlmann is Assistant Professor in Bioimaging and Data Analysis in the Department of Molecular Life Sciences at the University of Zurich and Director of the BioVisionCenter at the University of Zurich. She is also a Research Group Leader at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), Cambridge, UK. She obtained her MSc in Bioengineering and PhD in Electrical Engineering from EPFL, Switzerland, followed by postdoctoral research in the Biomedical Imaging Group at EPFL. Her research interests include quantitative bioimage analysis, approximation theory, machine learning, and computational geometry, with a focus on developing methods to quantify morphology from microscopy images across scales, modalities, and biological systems.
